La France est présente à cette réunion avec deux idées principales.
La première, c'est que la réaffirmation de notre soutien plein et entier à la coalition nationale syrienne.
La deuxième idée, notre soutien à la perspective d'une conférence à Genève, à condition que le succès puisse être au rendez-vous, ce qui signifie un certain nombre de choses en termes de participation et en termes d'ordre du jour. Il n'est pas question d'aller à Genève si c'est pour échouer. Ce serait une grande déception, donc il y a des conditions à réunir et nous allons en discuter ce soir.
I am here to explain what is the position of France.
First, France is supporting completely the national coalition of Syrian opposition and I will, tonight, reaffirm this full support.
Second, France is in favour of a new conference in Geneva provided that the conditions of a success are met. Obviously it would be a great disappointment if the new conference was a failure and therefore there are some conditions to fulfill and in particular conditions about participation which must be representative and which must not include countries which are against the success. And second the condition about agenda. It is perfectly clear that the main aim of this possible Geneva II conference is to bring in a government, a transitional government for Syria, which will have the full executive powers and that's a condition of France.

R - Nous avons une discussion avec nos amis européens sur la levée de l'embargo sur les armes. La France, la Grande-Bretagne, ont pris des positions visant à modifier l'embargo ; d'autres pays européens ont une position différente. Nous devons prendre notre décision lundi prochain puisque nous avons une réunion, à Bruxelles, consacrée à cette question.
Q - (inaudible sur la position de la France concernant le rôle de Bachar el-Assad dans la transition)
R - The position of France is the position which has been written in Geneva I communiqué. I was one of the writers of this communiqué, and in this communiqué that has been agreed by the participants - among which France, US, Russia - it has been said that there was to be a transitional body which will have all the executive power. It means that, in fact, the powers which are today held by the President will be held by the transitional government. It is clear.
