What do you want to hear from the Italian finance minister today ?

M. Bruno Le Maire  : Once again, it won't be the key issue today. But as you know the Commission has already made a really important work to try to address the issue and to fix the difficulties. They have extended a hand to Italy. I think it would be wise from the Italian government to seize the hand extended by the European Commission and to take the appropriate measures to fix the issue. So it's up to the Italian government to make its choice. But I think that the wiser choice would be to seize the hand extended by the Commission and to take the appropriate measures. We have rules within the Eurozone. I think that it is always wise, and in the interest of all the Eurozone members, to stick by the common goals.

Maybe one word about our discussion today, because as you know we are not far from having a consensus and a compromise on the key features of the Eurozone budget and on the improvement of the ESM, and we are not far from a decision about the Backstop. All those decisions would represent a major breakthrough for the Eurozone. So I hope that in a spirit of compromise, we will be all in a situation to take decision. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow early in the morning, so that they would be a clear reinforcement and improvement of the Eurozone : a decision on the main features of the Eurozone budget ; a decision on the ESM. To put in place a backstop within the ESM will be, once again, a major breakthrough. It would mean more stability for the Eurozone, it would mean more security for the savers, it would mean historic reinforcement of the Eurozone. As you know, it has always been at the heart of the program of the French President Emmanuel Macron to get a clear reinforcement on those basis for the Eurozone. I think that we are not far from a consensus ; we are not far from decisions. I urge every member states to really do its utmost efforts to get a consensus, to have decisions, to reach a compromise for the sake of having a reinforce Eurozone, which would be able to face a new possible economic or financial crisis and which would give security and stability to our European citizens".
